The National Association Of Convenience Stores: Educating Regulators About The Petroleum Marketplace
The Challenge:
The National Association Of Convenience Stores (NACS) is an international trade association representing more than 2,200 retail and 1,600 supplier company members – with more than 150 thousand stores in the United States. NACS serves the convenience and fuel retailing industry by providing industry knowledge, connections and advocacy to ensure the competitive viability of its members' businesses.
In response to an effort by attorneys general and other regulators to expand investigations and prosecutions related to instances of price gouging in the fuel industry, NACS sought to partner with those leaders to create an initiative to better educate America’s attorneys general and other high profile regulators about the market conditions that affect fuel prices.
The ALIGN Solution:
On behalf of the National Association of Convenience Stores, Align developed and continues to execute a program that continually informs and educates the offices of the 50 Attorneys General on the dynamics of the petroleum marketplace, with particular focus on the causes of price fluctuations at the gas pump.
NACS serves the convenience and fuel retailing industry by providing industry knowledge, connections and advocacy to ensure the competitive viability of its members' businesses.
As a result of that continual interaction and dialogue, both the enforcement community and the retailers have a better understanding of the appropriate range of price fluctuations and the need for high profile investigations has significantly waned. Additionally, as those attorneys general either remain in office or seek other elected posts, those working relationships with the affected retail community have been maintained and leveraged, improving the advocacy capabilities for retailers across the country.
